Morality in Bollywood - Present or Lacking

Bollywood industry is an incredible phase that contains all the diverse customs as well as traditions that the country is home to. These movies speak for the morality and have aimed to expose the genres of immorality. Somehow, most of the movies are also as the means of providing the depravities of the society. They describe the values of their heritages, the delicacies and intricacies of all the interactions and the prettiness of the morality as is apparently distinguished by all these cultures. Morality is basically referring to segregate the actions, decisions, and intentions between good or right and wrong or bad. Morality is a body that contains all standards or principles for a person to suppose them as universal. But do these moralities serve in contemporary Bollywood movies? Do these movies still acquire the fervor that was essentially theirs?

The history which is combined of such movies Do Aankhen Barah Haath, Sujata, Dosti, Shaheed, Anand, Roti Kapada Aur Makaan, Ardh Satya, Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar, Mrityudand etc and now embellished with the modern movies like Baghban, Swedes, Lakshya, Taare Zammen Par, 3 Idiots, PK, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, etc. All of these movies that are mentioned above, sated with moralities.

Despite these movies, the contemporary directors have come up with new phenomenon and in this way they have produced the movies repleted with their own ideas. Among of these directors, Imtiaz Ali and Ayan Mukherji are most prominent figures. Imtiaz Ali’s Highway, Roskstar and Jab We Met, and Ayan Mukherji’s Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani as well as Wake Up Sid movies are beyond the moralistic approaches and the teachings of ethics and dogma as well.

Talking about the songs of these movies, it would not be wrong to compass that some of them have given rise to immoralities as well. The old songs are different and embellished with moralities in the respective of the modern songs which are empty from the meaningful poetry. The songs like Nach Basanti, Sheela Ki Jawani, Selfie le le re, Kudi tu patakha, Bad Baby and many others have no any morality rather produced just for the sake of entertainment.

To sum up the above discussion into a nutshell, we can say that the movies have obtained the varieties for the people to spend their leisure time by watching these entertaining movies and the video songs. A number of Bollywood movies have released with the elements that have morality declines and these are the indicators rather than cause. But for some people these stuffs are accurate and enough to provide them entertainment rather than any moral or immoral lessons. Among the contemporary directors, the famous director Imtiaz Ali has stated:

“I was also influenced by cinema greatly, but was more influenced by movies that were not meaningful cinema. They were easy, casual good films and I feel I have acquired a lot of social skills and moral values from movies,” he further said “I think Indian cinema, more than anything else, is instrumental and responsible for the sense of morality that exists in society. I actually check whether my movies strengthen those values or not.”
